Follow a tiny chefs dream of cuisine through the streets of Paris
Ratatouille is a heartwarming and inspiring Pixar movie about a talented rat who becomes a chef in a French restaurant.
This is one of my personal favourite movies. Told from the perspective of a rat named Remy, he is inspired by the food and cooking of the famous chef Gustove. As a result, Remy finds himself in the center of Paris where his favorite chef’s famous restaurant is located. From the rooftop window, Remy watches the kitchen and demonstrates his knowledge of cooking.
Afterward, he finds himself inside the kitchen and attempts to escape, only to end up cooking. Later on, an encounter in the kitchen leads Remy to assist Linguine, the garbage boy, in becoming a chef. Consequently, this provides Remy with the opportunity to utilize his skills and fulfill his dreams.
Lessons from the movie and my insights:
‘Anyone can cook’ - Gusteau
Chef Gusteau’s famous quote ‘anyone can cook but only the fearless can be great’ has a deep meaning behind it. You can do anything you want and achieve anything you want all you have to do is put your mind to your passion and keep trying even when it gets tough. Try new things and surprise yourself because you never know until you try and you can never be great without putting all your time and energy into your passion.
‘Not anyone can become a great artist but a great artist can come from anywhere’ - Anton Ego
You may relate achievement to background and upbringing, limiting yourself to lower standards. However, no matter your background the only ingredients you need to achieve your dreams are passion and consistency.
Food always comes to those who cook
Along the same lines of the other quotes, if you keep going you will eventually achieve, never give up.
EVANS INSPIRES insight : An insight into my story and how these quotes relate to me
As a creative, when leaving school I didn’t know what to do for a job. I felt lost not knowing what was mean’t for me. I always tried hard in school but didn’t do as well as my friends, I felt like I wasn’t good at anything. I decided to push myself out of my comfort zone and apply for a job that I had no prior skills in but was very interested in the opportunities it would open up for me. For a long time I found it very difficult, working with people that were very knowledgeable when I had little knowledge of the industry. At one point I felt lost in this position but I changed my perspective and have found a new path within within my position. I am letting my passion guide and push me to keep learning and growing and have found a spark and new love within this. I am enjoying it so much now that I have decided to continue my studies online alongside working. My story shows that great things take time and you have to keep the passion and push through the hurdles to achieve greatness. Never give up on your dreams as one day you will achieve them.
